Title says my question...
I normally save my pictures as JPEG and sometimes PNG, but what do you guys think is the best file type to use and what are the advantages of using that file type? Last edited by Hess; 05-10-2008 at 02:39 PM. |

PSD in Adobe PhotoShop / CPT in Corel PhotoPaint - for projects. You have the most possibilities with these formats.
JPG - For non-transparent images; when the size should be as small as possible. In more advanced programs you can set the compression level. PNG - Best for transparent high quality images; it supports semi-transparency. GIF - Only for animations; uses only 256 color palette and there is no semi-transparency (a pixel can be fully transparent or fully opaque) BMP - Good quality but limited possibilities. I personally use it for textures (eg. scanlines) and alpha channels.

Depends on how well you and your program can use a 256 color palette.
